Mark Sullivan is an Albuquerque-based interdisciplinary artist whose work centers on the meditative joy of time-consuming repetition. Drawing on his years as a book cover designer, he emphasizes simplicity and visual immediacy by working exclusively with a black Pilot Precise V5 pen on white paper. His current project, the Scribble Series, begins with intuitive, random lines that evolve organically into intricate compositions of dot patterns and deep black negative spaces. By elevating the humble act of scribbling, Sullivan embraces spontaneity and explores the creative possibilities discovered within a highly disciplined, minimalist practice.
